Chap 4 Ratio, Proportion and Unitary Method.

Chap 4
Ratio, Proportion and Unitary Method.
Some Important facts:
1.    The comparison of two quantities of same kind by division is known as ratio.
2.    A ratio should always be expressed in the simplest form or the lowest terms.
3.    Ratio is a pure number and has no unit.
4.    The equality of two ratios is called proportion. If the ratios a : b = c : d than a, b, c and d form a proportion and are called first, second, third and the fourth term respectively.
5.    In proportion, first and fourth terms are called the extreme terms or simply extremes and second and the third terms are called the middle terms or means.
6.    Four quantities are said to be in proportion if product of extremes = product of means.
7.    Three quantities (numbers) a, b and c said to be in continued proportion if a : b :: b : c.
8.    The method, in which we first find the value of unit quantity from given statement and then the value of required quantity using it, is known as unitary method.
